This 130-year-old house with hickory stacks outside and creaky, dark-wooded floors once served as the mayor’s home. Now it serves blueberry lemon pancakes, cornmeal biscuits, and one-year-aged pork, all made with Southern-sourced ingredients. (at Husk Nashville)

It was as Jack White promised: rare & odd pressings, a full female staff dressed in erratic uniforms, the sound of fresh recordings rolling under a door we weren’t allowed to open. (at Third Man Rolling Record Store)

The third day of jet lag led me to an early bike ride & the baked eggs that often follow. These ones came with Moroccan spices & conversation about late summer road trips through the American southwest. (at Gjelina)

Recently heard sleep called “rehearsing for death”, so when I couldn’t sleep at 4:45, I did something about it. An 84-year-old Texan named Bubba (no shit) and I hiked Diamond Head before the tourist buses arrived. His Japanese wife is on vacation, and since “her family don’t speak no English,” he’s here in Honolulu, riding his moped and listening to Johnny Cash on his Walkman. (at Top Of Diamond Head, Oahu)

You’d be forgiven for not first noticing that it’s 11pm. Street side barbecue, carnival games, university students looking to practice their English. We received invitations for friendly competition to play darts (immediately accepted) and arm wrestle (after a few beers). (at Siheung Si, Gyeonggi Do)
